Kaufman Poor Farm Project

The farm is believed to be the only one left in Texas still owned by the County. The Kaufman County Historical Commission holds a 99 year, renewable, lease agreement with the County for the use of 27 acres located on Highway 34 between the Kaufman County Jail and the County Fair Grounds. The property includes a stock pond, original buildings such as the superintendent's residence, dining hall, dormitory, silo, water well and well house, blacksmith shop, barns, chapel, and other outbuildings. The old jailhouse is also located on the property. Many vintage farm implements, tools and utensils used on the farm are still in place.

Dallas Museum of Natural History

The Dallas Museum of Natural History is the only collections-based, research-driven public natural history museum in the region. With working archaeologists and paleontologists on staff, the museum not only repackages and interprets scientific knowledge but actively expands its frontiers.

The Sixth Floor Museum

A dramatic audio tour of The Sixth Floor as told by the people who were there is available to guide visitors through the exhibition. The recorded tour incorporates excerpts from historic radio broadcasts and the voices of reporters, police officers, eyewitnesses and others commenting on President Kennedy and his place in history. Narrator for the audio tour is Pierce Allman, the first journalist to broadcast from the Texas School Book Depository on November 22, 1963. (The audio tour tape, available in seven languages and a children's version, along with a video composed of the films used in the exhibition is available in the Museum Store in the Visitors Center).

Frontiers of Flight

The Frontiers of Flight Museum was founded in November, 1988, by Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Jan Collmer, and William E. Cooper. Their initial intent was to exhibit at Dallas Love Field the priceless artifacts, documents and photographs of the History of Aviation Collection donated to The University of Texas at Dallas by the legendary aviation historian George E. Haddaway. Since 1988, the Museum has added to the Collection extensive artifacts dealing with the history of aviation from earliest days through today's modern military, commercial and aerospace vehicles.

Texas International Theatrical Arts Society

Now entering its 22nd Season, under the leadership of Executive Director Charles Santos (appointed in 2001), TITAS has presented over 130 of the world's finest performing ensembles; ranging from the greatest classical companies, to the young American ensembles currently leading the dance world, to ethnic troupes rich in the history of other cultures. The eclectic nature of TITAS programming provides the community a window to the world from Dallas that would not otherwise be open.

Dallas Summer Musicals

Sixty-six years ago summer musical theater began in Dallas. Opera Under the Stars in Fair Park's Band Shell. It was not altogether a bad idea to be performing out of doors in 1941, if the alternative would have been indoors without the benefit of air-conditioning in the 100-degree plus temperatures typical of summer time in Dallas. What was important was an audience experiencing the magic of live theater. In celebrating the 60th anniversary of this organization, revisit with us some of the landmarks and highlights as the Dallas Summer Musicals evolved from the Band shell experience.

The Majestic Theater

Located on the edge of downtown Dallas, The Majestic Theatre is convenient to downtown hotels and entertainment areas. DART Light Rail is only steps away from The Majestic’s rear stage entrance. The 1667 seat theatre provides a variety of opportunities for presentations for musical productions, dramatic plays, national pageants, dance and concerts or a grand theatrical setting for dinner on stage.
